Stationhand

Features

Everything a station needs, in one system

From the first song of the day to the listener's phone – playout, studios, scheduling, adverts, websites and support.

Playout

On air around the clock

Stationhand plays your log, mixes like a presenter, and knows every song in your library.

Automation that sounds live

Stationhand plays your log around the clock and mixes like a presenter would.

  • Beat-matched transitions – every song is analysed for tempo, beats, bars and key, so mixes land on the beat. How it works →
  • Hours that end on time – it plans each hour and nudges the pace so the top of the hour lands where it should.
  • AI voice links – between songs, an automated presenter can back-announce, give the weather or read your script.
  • Hands on when you want – skip, hold, re-order the running order, or take over the decks in manual mode.

A library that knows your music

Add your songs and Stationhand does the rest.

  • Analysed for you – tempo, key, intros, outros and where the singing starts, for mixes and voice links that never talk over vocals.
  • Album artwork found automatically for the website and players.
  • Track review – anyone can flag a song with a problem, and lyrics are checked automatically; it's held off air until an admin clears it. Compliance →
  • New music inbox – artists and labels send their new tracks; listen, then add the ones you like, tagged as promos with the artist's notes.

Scheduling

Build your sound once

Clocks, rules and a log planned ahead – and when plans change, any hour can be rescheduled on the fly.

Scheduling made simple

Build your sound once, and let Stationhand fill every hour.

  • Clocks – the shape of an hour: songs by category, jingles, advert breaks and fixed times.
  • Smart clock builder – pick the days and hours and it lays out the clock and puts it on the schedule.
  • Rules – artist and title separation, tempo flow and category turnover, checked as the log is made.
  • The log – every hour planned ahead, with timings, rule checks and one-click alternatives.
  • Change of plan? – reschedule any hour on the fly, even the one on air: the new hour starts as the current song ends.

Presenters

Live from anywhere – or recorded at home

Live studios in the browser, voice tracking, and pre-recorded shows that air on time.

Live studios, from any browser

Presenters go live from the studio, home or an outside broadcast – no special hardware.

  • Microphone in the browser – or in the Stationhand Studio desktop app for Windows and Mac.
  • Smooth hand-overs between automation and studios, with the programme returned to each presenter.
  • Voice tracking – record links ahead of time and drop them into the log.
  • Carts and requests – jingles on a cart wall, and listener requests and shout-outs straight to the studio.

Pre-recorded shows

Shows your DJs make at home – on air, on time

DJs upload a finished mix with the .cue file their DJ software makes. Stationhand plays it in their slot – and knows every track in it.

Their own login

Pre-recorded DJs see only their shows and their web profile: upload, keep up to four shows, and choose what airs on each of their next four airings.

The mix and its cue file

MP3 or WAV, with the .cue from their DJ software – checked against each other, WAV turned into high-quality MP3, big files uploaded in pieces with a progress bar.

On air, on time

A station ID on the hour, the mix, then music in the same style to the end of the slot – one-hour or two-hour shows. No adverts, weather, news or links in between.

Track by track

"Now playing" on the stream, the website and the players follows the tracks in the mix, and each one goes into the play history for your music reports.

"If you missed the last show…"

The DJ's page on the station website can show the last show's playlist once it has aired.

Never the same show twice in a row

Back-to-back airings get different shows unless an admin allows a repeat. Nothing chosen? The DJ's latest show plays.

Pop-up stations

More stations, from the same library

A dance channel, a Christmas station, a festival weekend – each with its own schedule, stream, player and listings, running alongside your main station.

  • Mark the songs for each pop-up – its clocks play only those.
  • Its own schedule, log and AI voice, and optional start and end dates – it goes on and off air by itself.
  • Its own player and app listing, and adverts that can run on it too.
  • Never silent – if a pop-up restarts, its listeners hear your main station until it's back.
  • Pop-up playout – see exactly what it's playing, what's next and what it just played.

For your listeners

A website, a player and an app – included

Every station gets a fast, good-looking website that keeps itself up to date with what's on and what's playing.

Station website

Now playing with album art, the schedule, shows and presenter profiles, news and events – edited from the console, on your own domain. Titles are kept tidy: "(Clean)", "(Radio Edit)" and the like are left off.

Web player

Listen live in one tap, add it to a phone's home screen, or embed it on any website. Requests and shout-outs go straight to the studio.

Listener app

Every Stationhand station – and its pop-ups – in one installable app, with what's on and what's playing.

Stays connected

Players reconnect by themselves if the stream drops, and tell listeners what's happening – even during a quick update.

Compliance

Keep it clean on air – and keep the record

Tools for the rules UK stations work to: what you play, when you play it, and a record of everything that went out.

Lyrics checked automatically

Every new song's lyrics are checked for swearing and discriminatory language, graded the way Ofcom's research grades offensive language. Strong language is held for an admin; milder words raise an alert.

OK after 9 pm

Clear a song for late nights only, and it's scheduled between 9 pm and 5:30 am – away from the times children are most likely to be listening.

Explicit versions caught

Tracks with "dirty" in the title or file name are held for review the moment they arrive; clean and radio edits are recognised.

Off-air recordings

Everything that went out, recorded hour by hour. Listen back, jump to a time, and download a recording – or just a clip – for a complaint or an advertiser.

Your quality, your keep time

Choose how big the recordings are and how long they're kept – 42 days is the period licensed UK broadcasters keep them for. Every download and deletion is logged.

A full audit trail

Who did what and when, plus the station log of streams and alarms – kept for as long as you choose, never less than 7 days.

Reliability

Built never to go off air

  • Backup feed – if the programme stops for any reason, listeners hear your backup audio and come back automatically.
  • Watchdog – services are watched every minute and restarted if they need it.
  • Station log – streams going off air and back, alarms and errors in one place, so you always know what happened.
  • Automatic updates – new versions install by themselves, only on the days and hours you choose. Listeners – pop-up stations' too – hear your backup feed for the few seconds the engine restarts, with no gap.
  • Secure by default – trusted HTTPS for every station's console and stream.
