Questions

Good to know

What does it run on?

A Linux server, a Windows PC or a Mac – on its own hardware or as a virtual machine. A lighter setup suits small computers; the full setup adds music analysis, vocal detection and speech for AI voice links.

Can presenters work from home?

Yes. They sign in to the console from any browser, or use the Stationhand Studio desktop app, and go live with their own microphone.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Your backup feed takes over until the programme is back, players reconnect listeners by themselves, the watchdog restarts anything that stops, and the station log records what happened. With a Standard plan, the Station Manager team can see it too.

How do updates work?

You choose: update with one click, schedule an update, or let it install automatically on the days and hours you pick. Listeners are told the station is having a quick update and are back within moments.

I'm an artist – how do I get my music to these stations?

Create an account on Stationhand New Music and send your tracks with their details. Once we've checked a track it goes to the New Music inbox of every station that uses it, and each station decides whether to add it.

Can DJs send in pre-recorded shows?

Yes. A DJ gets their own login, uploads a finished mix with its .cue file, and chooses which show airs on each of their next four airings. It plays in their slot with a station ID first and music in the same style after it, and "now playing" follows the tracks in the mix. More about pre-recorded shows.

How does Stationhand help with Ofcom's rules?

It records everything that goes out, so you can listen back and download a recording or a clip; checks lyrics for offensive language and holds songs for review, with an "OK after 9 pm" option; catches explicit versions; and keeps an audit log of every change. Compliance stays your station's responsibility – Stationhand gives you the tools. More about compliance.

What's special about the mixing?

Most radio automation crossfades one song into the next. Stationhand beat-matches: it analyses every song's tempo, bars, phrases and key, starts the next song on the beat and on a phrase, matches the tempo without changing the pitch, and keeps the blend clear of vocals – like a DJ, around the clock.

What statistics do I get?

Listening hours, average and peak listeners and the busiest times for your stream and pop-up stations, listening through your web player and app, and your website's visitors, pages and where they come from – in your console, without cookies.

What do beta testers get?

Early access to Stationhand, a direct line to the people building it, and 30% off at launch. Become a beta tester.

Who can use the Station Manager?

Stationhand resellers. Each station runs from its own console; its reseller uses the Station Manager to set it up, keep it updated and support it.

How do I become a reseller?

Fill in our contact form (choose "Becoming a reseller") and tell us a little about your business and the stations you work with – we'll talk you through how it works and partner pricing.

Does Stationhand cover music licensing?

No – Stationhand plays your music; licensing for broadcasting it stays with your station, as with any playout system.
